In our daily routine we follow many traditions related with our religion and culture. We perform those traditions because we have faith in religion and our elders do that.
But nothing is without any reason. Here are few traditions which we perform daily but we don’t know its scientific reason.
1) Joining both hands to say Namaste
In Hindu Culture, People greet by joining their palm. General reason behind this tradition is showing respect.
But Scientific reason is joining both hands ensures joining the tip of all fingers together which are pressure points for eyes, ears and mind. Pressing them together is said to activate the pressure points which help us to remember that person for a long time.
2) Wearing Toe ring
Wearing Toe Ring is significance of married woman. It’s not just jewellery, it too have scientific reason.
Generally Toe Rings are worn on the second toe. Nerve from Second Toe connects the uterus and passes to heart. Wearing toe ring on this finger strengthens the uterus, keeps you healthy by regulating blood flow to it and menstrual cycle will be regularized. Toe rings are made of Silver which is good conductor; it absorbs polar energies from the earth and passes it to the body.
3) Applying KumKum on the forehead
Between two eyebrows there is spot considered as major nerve point in human body. Generally tilak is believed to prevent the loss of “energy”. Red KumKum between the eyebrows is said to retain energy in human body and controls various levels of concentrations.
While applying KumKum the points on the mid-brow region are automatically pressed which facilitates the blood supply to the face muscles.
4) Starting food with spices and ending with Sweet
Eating practice of starting with spices and ending with sweet is that spicy things activates the digestive juices and acids and ensures that the digestive process goes on smoothly and efficiently, sweets pulls down the digestive process.
5) Applying Mehendi on the hand and Feet
Mehendi is more than lending color on the hands and feet, its powerful medical herb. Application of mehendi can prevent too much stress because it cools the body and keeps the nerves from becoming tense. That’s why we apply mehendi during wedding days.
We apply mehendi on hands and feet, which house nerve endings in the body.
6) Piercing Ear
Piercing the ears has a great importance in Hindu Tradition. Many believes that piercing the ears helps in development of intellect, power of thinking and decision making faculties. Talkativeness fritters away life energy.
Ear piercing helps in speech-restraint. It helps to reduce impertinent behavior and the ear-channel become free from disorder.
Ancient medical system sees the basic cause of many diseases as accumulation of toxic materials in digestive system. Regular cleaning of toxic materials keeps one healthy. By Fasting, the digestive organs rest and body mechanism are cleansed and corrected. Fast is good for health. Fasting lowers acid content in the body which helps people to retain their sanity.
8) Applying Sindoor
Sindoor is prepared by mixing turmeric-lime and the metal mercury. Due to its intrinsic properties, mercury besides controlling blood pressure also activates sexual drives. This is why Sindoor is prohibited for the widows.
Sindoor should be applied right upto the pituitary gland where all feelings are cantered. Mercury is also known for removing stress and strain.
9) Wearing Bangles in Hand
Normally Wrist position is most active part of any human body. Also the pulse beat in this portion is mostly checked for all sorts of ailments. Constant friction of bangles with wrists increases blood circulation level.
10) Eat with your legs crossed
Sitting on floor with crossing legs is “Sukhasan”, which is one of the asan of Yoga. This position brings sense of calm and help digestion. It is believed to automatically trigger the signals to your brain to prepare the stomach for digestion.
