Meet The First Indian Woman Gymnast Who Secured Olympics Berth: Dipa Karmakar

India is a country where “cricket” is a very famous sport. Due to which many people are unaware of other sports and achievements of Indian people in other games. So today, let’s dig up about a very talented personality, who is not a cricketer but has made India proud by her achievements, gymnast Dipa Karmakar.

This 22-year-old girl has sealed a berth for the Rio Olympics Games with a strong performance at the final qualifying and test event. She has earned total 52.698 points in qualifying events.

This young lady has already recorded many firsts under her name. She is an Indian artistic gymnast from Tripura, who represents India at the international circuit. In 2014, she bagged a bronze medal at Commonwealth Games, held at Glasgow becoming the first Indian female gymnast to do so in the history of the games. She also won a bronze at the Asian Gymnastics Championships and finished fifth at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships both a first for her country.

Dipa started training under veteran Bisbeshwar Nandi and he has been her coach ever since then. Since 2007, she has won 77 medals including 67 gold, in a state, national and international championships.
